First Northwoods Film Festival To Feature ‘Wild Rose and ‘Juliet, Naked’ Amongst Others

The Northwoods Film Festival will have its first event this summer showcasing independent films to the Northern Wisconsin community, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Their lineup includes variety of film types ranging from short films to documentaries. The festival will commence on Friday with John Chester’s Big Little Farm, which details the story of a couple’s quest to establish a sustainable farm outside of Los Angeles, and Tom Harper’s Wild Rosestarring Jessie Buckley. Two feature films that will be shown in the event include Juliet, Naked starring Rose Byrne, Ethan Hawke, and Chris O’Down, as well as Sony Picture Classics’ Maiden. Shorter features will break up the time between these longer films including Two Balloons, Singularity Stories Volume 1In This Life, and Lavender.

The nonprofit festival is headed mostly by women and, based on the list of people involved with its organization, it appears that some of them are related. This may indicate that the idea began within a family and then branched out  to include other artists in order to expand the event’s name recognition. According to the Northwoods Film Festival’s website, the hope is to create a sense of community around movie-watchers and expose people to films that have not received wider theatrical releases.

The Northwoods Film Festival is set to take place from August 16th-17th in Woodruff, Wisconsin.
