First Look Media’s streaming platform Topic has acquired the rights to David White’s upcoming New Zealand comedy film This Town. The film is written, directed, and stars White, and tells the story of love, murder, and finding “the one”. This Town stars Robyn Malcolm, Alice May Connolly and Rima Te Wiata.
According to Deadline, This Town follows a couple, Sean (White) and Casey (Connolly), who live in a small town in New Zealand. They met on a dating app, have been hanging out for a few months, and are finally beginning to introduce one another to their friends. There is one problem though, and it’s a big one: Sean is widely presumed to have murdered his whole family. Sean has to now deal with a suspicious town, sheriffs, and a noisy reporter, but wants nothing more than to prove his love to Casey by proving to her his innocence.
When asked about This Town, Ryan Chanatry, General Manager of Topic said, “We are thrilled to add David White and his inventive and bold voice to the family of Topic storytellers, who are characterized by their willingness to explore the unexpected in their work. This Town is a hilarious, heartwarming story that is sure to delight our audience”.
White stated,“I am so thrilled that Topic has picked up the rights to This Town. After the film’s stunning success down under, we couldn’t be happier that we landed on such a filmmaker-friendly platform to bring it to the North American market”.
My Town will be released on Topic May 20th.
