Now that the upcoming film The Batman has a well-rounded and star-studded cast including Robert Pattinson, Zoe Kravitz, Peter Sarsgaard, Colin Farrell, Andy Serkis, and Jeffrey Wright, the film is moving ahead into production in anticipation of its 2021 release.
The first piece of footage relating to the film was posted today by director Matt Reeves on social media, which you can see below. It is a short clip, which he describes as a screen test for Pattinson in the new and improved Bat Suit. It is dimly lit in a bright red tint, showing just enough to make out the silhouette and some detailing of the character.

The movie is in the early stages of filming, so we will likely not be getting much more new footage any time soon. From this clip alone though, it is clear that the film will be taking a dark, dramatic, stylish approach to rehashing the hero’s origin story. With so many recent Batman films, the most recent being Justice League, which starred Ben Affleck as the caped crusader, this film will have to distinguish itself from its predecessors and show where DC is heading from here.
The Batman is scheduled to hit theaters next summer on June 25, 2021.
