After years of discussion with director Guillermo del Toro about his interest in bringing Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley’s Frankenstein novel to life, the film will be released on Netflix later this year. As the streamer shared its 2025 movie slate, it also released a couple of first-look photos from Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein. The first photo, shared on Netflix’s Instagram, shows Oscar Isaac’s Victor Frankenstein.
The other photo shows Frankenstein in his lab which features a freakishly large body on a wooden table, possibly hinting at Jacob Elordi as Frankenstein’s creature. Check out the other photo here.
In 2018, when del Toro won the BAFTA for Best Director for The Shape Of Water, he took time to personally thank Frankenstein and Shelley for the inspiration she has given to him throughout his life and career. With a stellar cast including Isaac and Elordi, as well as scream queen Mia Goth, it seems del Toro will put that inspiration on display with this film. The cast also includes Christoph Waltz, Felix Kammerer, Lars Mikkelsen, David Bradley, Christian Convery, and Ralph Ineson. The film was shot between Scotland and Canada, amid the Gothic architecture of Edinburgh and the snowy front of Toronto.
Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein will be available to stream on Netflix in November.
