After the shocking conclusion of last year’s blockbuster hit Split, audiences have been salivating for the next installment in M. Night Shyamalan’s comic book world of his own creation. Set as a sequel to both Split and Unbreakable (released in 2000), Glass will bring together all three captivating characters in one movie.
David Dunn, played by Bruce Willis, is the protagonist in the Unbreakable narrative and continues his assumed mission by hunting anti-heroes in Glass. Samuel L. Jackson’s Elijah Price or ‘Mr. Glass’, and the new addition, Kevin Wendell Crumb or ‘The Beast’, portrayed by James McAvoy, both play villains of a sort. Shyamalan’s clever construction of these complex characters molds both Price and Crumb into personalities that pull at audience’s heartstrings while also making them so depraved that fans likewise want to see them brought to justice.
Shyamalan also incorporates several familiar faces as well as a hot newcomer to the story line. Charlayne Woodard who played Price’s mother, Dunn’s son played by Spencer Treat Clark, and Anya Taylor-Joy who escaped The Beast’s clutches for being broken, round out the recognizable cast members. The latest addition is American Horror Story’s Sarah Paulson. According to Collider, Paulson will bring a fresh element to the modernistic comic book world as the psychologist who treats Dunn, Price, and Crumb for thinking they are superheroes/villains/humans. It promises to be another dynamic plot twist that allows audiences to reason that these people could actually be super, only to debunk them as crazy.
