23-year-old actor Craig Roberts – known primarily for his roles in the Richard Ayoade indies Submarine and The Double – will make his feature writing and directing debut with the indie comedy Just Jim, starring himself and Emile Hirsch (Into the Woods). The above still, posted on Roberts’ Instagram account, features Hirsch as the enigmatic Dean, an American who strikes a deal with his Welsh neighbor, Jim (Roberts), to help make him the “cool kid in town.” Although Roberts has of late appeared in small roles in the studio comedies Neighbors and 22 Jump Street, his upcoming projects are all in his indie sweet spot. He is set to appear alongside Nicholas Hoult (Warm Bodies) in Kill Your Friends and is attached to star opposite Emma Roberts (We’re the Millers) in an Untitled Derick Martini Project (Hick, Lymelife). As a promising niche comedic actor, it will be intriguing to see how his personal brand of comedy translates behind the scenes in Just Jim.
