Travis Fimmel Added to ‘Maggie’s Plan’

Travis Fimmel in History Channel’s ‘Vikings’

In case Greta Gerwig (Francis Ha), Bill Hader (The Skeleton Twins), Ethan Hawke (Boyhood) and Julianne Moore (Still Alice) weren’t enough, now Travis Fimmel (TV’s Vikings)  has joined the romantic comedy Maggie’s Plan, according to Deadline.

The movie follows Maggie (Gerwig), who is trying to make her way in contemporary New York City. On the surface, the role sounds similar to Gerwig’s previous movie, Francis Ha, which she filmed with her frequent collaborator, Noah Baumbach. Fimmel is set to play the role of “Guy.” It’s unclear whether that is his character’s name or an abstract characterization.

Fimmel hasn’t done a ton of major film work to this point. Before he got the lead role on Vikings, Fimmel’s most notable role was on the straight-to-video-sequel Pure Country 2: The Gift. He is, however, starring in the video game adaptation of the wildly successful online game, Warcraft, which is slated for a 2016 release. Maggie’s Plan is set to open later this year.

This is also the biggest movie for director Rebecca Miller, whose last directorial effort was 2009’s The Private Lives of Pippa Lee, a movie that dealt with the titular character trying to find her way in the suburbs after her husband forced them to move from the city.

Tyler Lyon: When Tyler isn't thinking about the lack of a Canadian presence in D2: The Mighty Ducks, whether Princess Leia can now be considered a Disney Princess or discovering 8-bit classics on his 3DS, he's cheering on the Cubs, Bulls, Bears, Blackhawks, and Hawkeyes.
