The director shared on Instagram a photo that seems to be a still from the upcoming film that shows Lady Gaga and Joaquin Phoenix close together, apparently after a kiss between their characters.
The caption of the image reads, “Happy Valentines Day.” This is the first image of Lady Gaga, as Harley Quinn has revealed. The actress and singer also shared the image on her social media.
The participation of Gaga as Harley Quinn in the sequel of the successful film was confirmed last August. The character she plays has previously been known as the Joker’s partner in the DC comics and films. Harley Quinn is a psychiatrist at the Arkham Asylum of Gotham City, where she meets the Joker and falls in love with him, later becoming his accomplice and lover. The actress Margot Robbie has recently played the character in Suicide Squad films and Birds of Prey.
Joker was a critical and commercial success when released in 2019. Phoenix was awarded an Academy Award for his performance, and the film was nominated for 11 other categories. The success of the feature made everyone wonder about a sequel. The film is not attached to a narrative continuity with other DC cinematic universe projects.
