It’s arrived! The final trailer for Brian Singer’s (Jack the Giant Slayer, Valkyrie) return to the X-Men world. And there’s a lot to talk about. Singer, who previously helmed both 2000’s X-Men and 2003’s X2: X-Men United comes back to the series that’s somewhat staggered without him. Our setup takes us to modern day where the mutants are at war not just with each other, but with humanity. Both Professor Charles Xavier (Patrick Stewart) and Magneto (Ian McKellen) agree that ending this war is what’s best.
To end this war they send Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) back to the seventies. At a time following the events of 2011’s X-Men First Class, which, for those of you who haven’t seen it…suffice it to say it’s easy how the fallout from the ending of that movie could put mutants in a bad spot.
From the trailer we can gather there’s a prison break headed up by Evan Peters’ Pietro Maximoff, a.k.a. “Quicksilver.” Quicksilver and co. are looking to break out younger Magneto (Michael Fassbender) to both unite Magneto and Professor Xavier, as well as the remaining mutants, against the forces of Bolivar Trask. But Trask has a secret weapon, giant mutant hunting robots called Sentinels.
Now down to brass tacks: the action! Which was all over the place, but at the same time gave us a sense of how the film will handle 20-plus mutant abilities. It seemed like every character had their moment in the sun here. It did exactly what a good final trailer is suppose to do – it got me excited for the film. But what did you guys think? Was the trailer something that got you psyched up for this big summer film?
