The final trailer has been released in anticipation of Black Widow‘s debut this coming May. The release date, it was confirmed this week, will not be moving due to coronavirus related causes. No Time to Die was rescheduled this week and SXSW cancelled, but it looks like Marvel will continue on schedule, likely because their films rely on a consistent release pattern.
This trailer gives fans much more exposition than the previous trailers. This clip begins by setting up more of the dynamic between sisters Natasha (Scarlett Johansson) and Yelena (Florence Pugh). Yelena describes the life she tells people that Natasha lives, but it’s nothing like her reality. She describes her time with the Avengers, and Yelena sets up the current situation.
Villain The Taskmaster has taken over The Red Room, where the two of them trained to become assassins in their youth. Now they have to go back to where they got their start to save the other women who are being weaponized by The Taskmaster. Milena (Rachael Weisz) and Alexei (David Harbour) join their fight.
The Taskmaster is known for mirroring the fighting techniques of other heroes, making him an intimidating adversary. In this trailer alone, we see him wielding a shield like Captain America and using lithe jumping attacks like Tom Holland’s Spider-man.
Marvel fans might also recognize Thaddeus Ross, who appeared in The Incredible Hulk and Captain America: Civil War, and is played by William Hurt. We see him for only a split second, but it is unclear whether or not he might be playing a major role in this film.
Plenty of action scenes are foreshadowed in this clip, and it seems the film will be a great addition to the MCU timeline. Leading fan theories place the film in between Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War.
