Phil Lord and Chris Miller’s 22 Jump Street now has a final red-band trailer. Sony’s trailer shows us a newer glimpse of the adventures of officers Jenko (Channing Tatum) and Schmidt (Jonah Hill).
As previously reported, the plot revolves around Tatum and Hill, as they go undercover and are sent back to college to bust a drug-dealing scheme. When they get a tip that someone is transporting drugs to Mexico, they travel there on Spring Break.
This sequel to the well-received adaptation of the 1987 TV show faces the task of rising to significantly higher expectations than its predecessor, but with LEGO Movie directors, Lord and Miller returning to the helm, the movie looks in good shape to meet them.
22 Jump Street’s newest trailer (below) once again shows off the chemistry between Tatum and Hill that made 21 Jump Street a success. Clips portray Hill and Tatum struggling to bond in couples therapy, binge drinking at parties, trying on college shirts, and being mocked in prison. Tatum’s shirt, “Sun’s out guns out,” describes this trailer’s angle best.
In addition to 22 Jump Street, Hill has another film currently in post-production: Rupert Goold’s True Story. Continuing the actor’s recent trend of mixing his comic roles with more dramatic fare like Moneyball and The Wolf of Wall Street, the pic centers on a journalist (Hill) and an FBI Most Wanted List murderer (played by James Franco) who spent years evading the law by living under the journalist’s name. Tatum is also set to hit the big screen in Andy Wachowski and Lana Wachowski’s Jupiter Ascending, about woman (Mila Kunis), who is targeted for murder by the Queen of the Universe, as well as the Olympic wrestling thriller Foxcatcher, co-starring Mark Ruffalo and Steve Carell.
22 Jump Street will be released June 13.
