Fifty Shades of Grey, the feature film based off the popular EL James novel, will make its international premiere at the Berlin Film Festival (Berlinale) on February 11, 2015, before being released in the U.S. on February 13, just in time for Valentine’s Day. Director Sam Taylor-Johnson (Nowhere Boy) will be in attendance in Berlin, along with stars Jamie Dornan (TV’s The Fall) and Dakota Johnson (The Social Network), as well as author-producer James. The film will be a part of the Berlinale Special Gala, which has featured films such as American Hustle (2013) and Capote (2005) in the past. Also premiering at the festival will be Terrence Malick’s Knight of Cups and Kenneth Branagh’s live-action Cinderella in the Competition programme. Playing at Berlin definitely raises the international recognition of Fifty Shades of Grey‘s profile while providing the festival with a highly anticipated film for its Special Gala screening.
