‘Fault in Our Stars’ Writers Re-Teaming to Adapt ‘Looking for Alaska’

Temple Hill Entertainment’s Mark H. Weber and Scott Neustadter, the writing-producing team behind the John Green-adaptations The Fault in Our Stars and Paper Towns (due out this summer) have signed on to tackle Green’s debut novel, Looking For Alaska, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The duo are also behind the indie romance adaptations The Spectacular Now and 500 Days of Summer.

The story follows the introverted Miles Halter who goes to boarding school in his junior year of high school searching for what author Francois Rebelais described as “The Great Perhaps.” Miles thinks he has found it when he meets a girl named Alaska Young who inspires him to break out of his shell and challenge the way he sees the world.

Although Weber and Neustadter seem to be churning out Green’s novels back-to-back-to-back, Looking for Alaska has had a long journey up to this point. Paramount acquired rights to the manuscript back in 2005, but decided to move ahead with TFIOS before Alaska could get the ball rolling – it was even on the Black List for a time as one of the top unproduced screenplays in Hollywood. Actress Sarah Polley (Go) was also attached to pen the script back in June of last year, however the involvement of Weber and Neustadter seems to have been just the key to move Alaska into production.
