WWII was fought on the ground, in tanks, on treacherous waters and in the skies far above. Multiple Academy Award winner William Wyler sought to tell the story of the famous Memphis Belle, the B-17F bomber used to fight Nazi Germany. The film was shot on location in 1943 during the actual fighting and although the film was never completed, the raw footage was discovered in the National Archives and now has been fully completed for everyone to view.
Director Erik Nelson (best known for his documentaries) is restoring all the original footage to tell the stories of the men who flew the planes, fought the Nazis and some of whom never returned home to their families. So, this is your chance to experience World War II like never before, from the people who were there.
The film is scheduled to be released in theaters on May 23 and will feature a behind the scenes look of how the film was made. The film will also be released on HBO on June 6. Tickets are on sale so don’t miss your chance to see the war from a different perspective.
