On June 27, 1976 Air France Flight 139 was hijacked by two Palestinians from the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine-External Operation (PFLP-EO), and two Germans from the German Revolutionary Cells. The flight landed in Entebbe, Uganda where a seven day standoff occurred. The motive behind the hijacking was to release 53 Palestinians and Pro-Palestinian militants, 40 of which were prisoners in Israel. Most of the hostages (248 in total) were Jewish and Israeli. Director Jose Padilha (Elite Squad) is bringing the fourth dramatization of this event to the big screen. The screenplay is written by Gregory Burke (’71).
The film’s cast include Rosamund Pike (Gone Girl), Daniel Bruhl (Captain America: Civil War), Lior Ashkenazi (Foxtrot), Vincent Cassel (Jason Bourne), and Nonso Anozie (Pan), who plays the Ugandan President Idi Amin who was is support of the hijackers.
7 Days in Entebbe is being distributed by Focus Features and will be released in theaters on March 9, 2018.
