‘Expendables 4’ On Track For Worst Opening Of Series With Estimated $8 Million Domestic Gross

Stallone returns to the big screen this weekend, bringing a new entry into the Expendables series. And although some new faces are on the scene, it doesn’t seem to be pulling in any new revenue.

Joined this time around by Megan Fox and 50 Cent, Expendables 4 cost $100 million to make, but isn’t looking to make nearly as much. Original estimates, as Hollywood Reporter states, had the film on track for an opening in the $15 million range, but is now looking to take home a lowly $8 million. This is an all-time low for the franchise.

The $8 million includes $3.2 million for Friday shows and $750,000 for Thursday shows. The previous 3 outings pulled in a combined total of $800 million globally. The original film from 2010 opened to a total of $34.8 million.

The critical response, as well, has been none too friendly either. With a mere 16% on Rotten Tomatoes, Hollywood Reporter themselves pointed out that it’s time to put a pin in the series.

Outside of the action world, The Nun 2 still continues to hold a steady grasp on the box office. Moving into its third weekend, it currently holds $160 million. With the track it’s on, it’s looking to beat out Expendables 4 by the end of the weekend.
