Exit 8, a Japanese psychological horror film adapted from a video game of the same title, has become the film with the biggest three-day release in Japan after fans flocked to see it after its theatrical opening on August 29th.
The story has a thrilling concept, with the plot following a man who finds himself in a subway station after he mysteriously wakes up. The only way to leave the station is through Exit #8. The objective seems simple enough. But, the man “has to keep his eyes peeled for everything that’s around him, because if he spots anything that’s different from the ordinary, he immediately has to turn back,” or else he will be trapped there for eternity. The adaptation was directed by Genki Kawamura from an adapted screenplay written by himself and Kentaro Hirase. The film stars Kazunari Ninomiya as The Lost Man with additional performances by Yamato Kochi, Naru Asanuma, Kotone Hanase, and Nanaa Komatsu.
The feature earned $6 million this past weekend and has now surpassed $7 million. With this performance, it is not surprising that Exit 8 is slated for a release in U.S. theaters. The film was bought to be distributed by NEON, with a release date set for early 2026.
