Actor Ethan Hawke will star in war thriller Zeros and Ones, directed and written by Abel Ferrara, who is known for films such as Bad Lieutenant and King of New York. Hawke’s character is JJ, an American soldier based in Rome, who is locked down and at war. He witnesses an attack on The Vatican and then must fight for his life against an unknown enemy threatening the lives of the entire world.
Hawke joins the cast with Cristina Chiriac (Siberia) and Phil Neilson (Natural Born Killers). Diana Phillips of Rimsky Productions and Philipp Kreuzer from Maze Pictures are producing the film. According to Hollwood Reporter, director Ferrara says that Zeros and Ones is a film “…of lockdown and war, danger and espionage, American soldiers, Chinese middlemen, Mid Eastern holy men, provocateurs, diplomats, rogue elements of the CIA and KGB. I cannot wait to roll the cameras next week in a way that is safe because this film was written during and with an understanding of the pandemic.” With the pandemic in mind while writing this film, it begs the question how this film will differ compared to if it was made in a world before the pandemic. Zeros and Ones will begin filming this month in Rome, Italy and is said to be released in 2021.
