Set photos have been rolling in from the filming of Christopher Nolan’s next film, The Odyssey. While Universal has been prompt with taking down leaked photos, when filming outdoors it can be difficult to keep under control. Most recently, photos surfaced showing a large-scale battle.
In the now removed photos, an army of soldiers raiding a village can be seen. Many extras were used to fill out the army. Most leaked set photos have now been taken down, but previous images showed a Trojan horse being used in the film. The only official look at this point comes in the form of a costume reveal for Matt Damon as Odysseus. The look garnered some negative reception for not being historically accurate, but Nolan seems to be taking liberties with this fantastical story.
Homer’s The Odyssey is a classic poem separated into 24 books. It tells the story of Odysseus as he attempts to return home to his wife and son after fighting in the Trojan War. Along the way, he encounters Greek gods and mythical creatures which test his resolve. The story is a landmark in literature and served as inspiration for countless stories and the ‘Hero’s Journey’ archetype as a whole.
Christopher Nolan is directing, with this film being his next after the Oscar-winning Oppenheimer in 2023. The cast includes Matt Damon as Odysseus, Tom Holland, Zendaya, Charlize Theron, Elliot Page, Mia Goth, Anne Hathaway, Lupita Nyong’o and Jon Bernthal. The film is set to be released on July 17, 2026.
