Rising actor Emory Cohen appears settled to board the upcoming survival-horror picture Sweetheart alongside likewise budding star Kiersey Clemons (Dope). Blumhouse Productions is overseeing the title which will be directed and co-written by JD Dillard (who is nearing the debut of the supernatural movie Sleight; as with that film Alex Hyner is co-writing Sweetheart). Variety was the first to report Cohen’s involvement.
As is the want of Blumhouse – the company behind such recent hits as Get Out and Split – plot details revolving Sweetheart are being kept secret as are character descriptions for the parts to be played by Clemons or Cohen. That being said, production on the title is expected to commence sometime next month and more details are likely to come forward as the film nears release.
Cohen’s boarding adds another notch to his quickly building résumé. The young actor started to make a name for himself in the 2013 drama The Place Beyond the Pines, an acclaimed drama starring Ryan Gosling and Bradley Cooper, as well as his somewhat critically knocked role on the troubled NBC musical Smash. Cohen quickly bounced back with an acclaimed breakout turn in the 2015 period romance Brooklyn, ably portraying the boyfriend of Saoirse Ronan in the Oscar-nominated feature. He recently appeared in the indie Detour.
Forthcoming, Cohen will be seen in the star-packed Netflix drama War Machine, the thriller Lords of Chaos and the crime drama Shot Caller. He is also expected the lead the forthcoming drama Crook Country.
