Emily Beecham Joins the Cast of Disney’s ‘Cruella’

Disney’s moviemaking skills are back in force, as the studio just hired Cannes 2019 Best Actress winter Emily Beecham of Little Joe fame to join the cast of the live-action prequel Cruella, according to Deadline .

Cruella explores the youth of the fashionable Cruella de Vil, villainess of Disney’s timeless classic 101 Dalmatians. The doggie motion picture is currently being shot in the UK at Shepperton Studios. A cast including Emma Stone as the titular character, Emma Thompson, Paul Walter Hauser and Joel Fry was announced earlier this year.

The story and the characters of Cruella are currently being kept under wraps, aside from Stone as the film’s eponymous character. Craig Gillespie, coming off the heels of I, Tonya, will direct the film, which is slated for a May 28, 2021 Memorial Day weekend release date. Disney provided Dalmatian fans with a first of the film at D23 this summer featuring Emma Stone, her two cronies, and some spotted puppies.

Beecham, a rising UK actress, recently starred alongside Ben Whishaw and Kerry Fox in the Fox sci-fi drama Little Joe. Beecham won the festival’s Best Actress award for the film, which is slated for a autumn release. Beecham is also known for her roles in Daphne and Into the Badlands.
