Game of Thrones breakout Emilia Clarke appears set to quest to a galaxy far, far away. It was revealed today, over at StarWars.com, that Clarke is joining the cast of the upcoming Han Solo standalone film, one of the highly anticipated titles in the recently rebooted Star Wars cinematic universe.
While it isn’t yet known what part Clarke will portray in the film, she will join a chorus of iconic characters in the film including Han Solo, Lando Calrissian and Chewie…albeit all in prequel form. Alden Ehrenreich (fresh from raves earlier this year in Hail, Caesar! and soon to appear in Rules Don’t Apply) will star as a young Han Solo alongside Donald Glover (The Martian) as a young Lando. It’s unknown as of yet if Clarke nabbed the female lead in the film, a part that was reportedly being considered by rising actors Tessa Thompson (Creed), Zoe Kravitz (Mad Max: Fury Road), Naomi Scott (Power Rangers) and Adria Arjona (Emerald City).
However, it’s a major win for Clarke, a three-time Emmy nominee for her portrayal of Daenerys Targaryen in HBO’s mega-success Game of Thrones. On screen, she most recently appeared in last summer’s failed reboot Terminator: Genisys and this summer’s sleeper romance Me Before You.
The Han Solo standalone film, still currently untitled, will be directed by Christopher Miller and Phil Lord (The LEGO Movie) and is set to be released on May 25, 2018.
