The Weinstein Company has released trailer for their new animated picture, Leap!, a film starring Elle Fanning and Nat Wolff which centers on two orphans in France during the year 1879 who decide to leave everything they’ve ever known behind to travel to Paris and fulfill their dreams.
Félicie, voiced by Fanning, is an 11 year old girl who dreams of becoming a famous ballerina, while her best friend Victor, voiced by Wolff, is an eccentric boy full of creativity who dreams of becoming an inventor. The two escape the orphanage, run by comedy legend Mel Brooks, so that they can travel to Paris and chase their dreams. In the trailer Victor finds a job working with the “man who was building” the Eiffel Tower (although it is not made clear whether he is referencing Gustave Eiffel, Stephen Sauvestre, or someone else working on the project) while Félicie struggles in the competitive, high-strung environment of the Opera Ballet School. She must also lie about her upbringing, claiming to be from a rich family in order to be accepted into the school in the first place.
The film was directed by Éric Summer and Éric Warin, and written by Carol Noble, Eric Summer and Laurent Zeitoun. Maddie Ziegler and Carly Rae Jepson also costar. The soundtrack will feature original music by Carly Rae Jepson, Demi Lovato, and Sia.
According to Deadline, Leap! already premiered at the Mon Premier Festival on October 19th, 2016 and was released in France and UK in December 2016 under its original title Ballerina. The film has already made almost $34 million internationally, with most of its income coming from its native France.
