Elle Fanning Nabbed for Neil Gaiman Adaptation, ‘How To Talk To Girls At Parties’

Fresh off the success of Maleficent, Elle Fanning is in talks to star in How To Talk To Girls At Parties, a British romance adapted from a Neil Gaiman short story. The film’s director, John Cameron Mitchell is known for directing the Golden Globe winning Girls, the Oscar-nominated Rabbit Hole (2010), and Golden Globe nominated Hedwig and the Angry Inch (2001).

Gaiman’s short story (available on his website) takes place at a party in 1970s London. It  focuses on a boy who has no problem scoring girls, and his shy counterpart, who struggles to make conversation. As is customary for a Neil Gaiman piece, the events take an otherworldly turn. How To Talk To Girls At Parties was nominated for a Hugo Award for best short story and won the Locus Award. Gaiman’s work has previously been adapted into films, including Stardust (2007) and Coraline (2009), which stars Elle’s sister, Dakota. Additionally, a film based on his popular comic book Sandman, is being developed by Warner Bros.

In addition to her role in Maleficent, Fanning graced the screen with her presence in J.J. Abram’s Super 8 (2011), David Fincher’s The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (2008), and Sally Potter’s Ginger & Rosa (2012).
