One of Marvel’s strongest superheroes, the Scarlet Witch, may not be truly done, as actress Elizabeth Olsen reveals that she is open to reprising the iconic role once more.
During a discussion at the 2025 Hamptons International Film Festival, the topic of Olsen returning to the franchise was approached, with her reply being, “It is something that I love, and it’s something I always want to return to.” Olsen continued, “I think the thing that’s been so special about the last five years is I’ve gotten to do so much with the character that I never thought I would. There are still characters through lines that have happened in the comics that I’d love to do that I think fans also want to. I mean, these movies aren’t for critics, these movies are for fans.”
Olsen made her first non-speaking Marvel appearance in an end credits scene in 2014’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and had her first speaking role as Wanda Maximoff/the Scarlet Witch in Avengers: Age of Ultron the following year. Olsen made a total of ten Marvel project appearances, including her own mini-series spinoff WandaVision in 2021, which earned Olsen both Emmy and Golden Globe nominations for her role.
Addressing the subject of “superhero-movie fatigue,” Olsen commented, “It’s really fruitful, and the stories have only gotten better for me, my character…Some people have ongoing television series that they get to return to. Very few, I feel like, get to be a part of franchises that, I know we might culturally get a little bit exhausted by, but there is something about them that becomes very familial.”
There has been no confirmation that Olsen will return as the Scarlet Witch during Avengers: Doomsday, but there is still hope, as Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has stated that not all of the cast list for the upcoming feature has been revealed yet.
