Elijah Bynum (Hot Summer Nights, Magazine Dreams) has begun filming on his next project, My Darling California. The film has a stacked cast, currently made up of Jessica Chastain, Don Cheadle. Chris Evans, Mikey Madison, Charles Melton, and Chris Pine.
Filming is fully taking place in California, with the film said to be set to the backdrop of Los Angeles in the 1980s. The film is described as, “…an American noir of ambition, greed and violence, and a love letter to the darker side of California.” The films byline tells the story of people whose lives begin being unexpectedly weaved together, similar to Paul Thomas Anderson’s Magnolia.
“A single crime that weaves together the lives of a fallen news anchor, her cheating televangelist husband, two small-time crooks, an ex-con and a rising country music idol. Their fates collide in a web of crime, seduction and deceit.”
The film was produced, financed, and sold by Anton. California Film & TV Tax Credit’s independent film category will provide a tax allocation just below $12 million for the project. 1Community and Access Entertainment just recently joined on as financiers, though Anton will handle international sales, with CAA Media Finance joining them in representing U.S. and global rights. Producing the film will be Alex Coco, David Hinojosa, and Sébastien Raybaud. Scott Budnick and Ameet Shukla will join them from 1Community, and Emily Blavatnik and Danny Cohen from Access Entertainment. Executive producing will be owner of Access Entertainment Len Blavatnik and Zach Nutman of 2AM.
Bynum also penned the script for this film, as for each of his films he has both written and directed. His cast behind the camera includes Chayse Irvin as cinematographer, Anthony Gasparro as production designer, and Natasha Newman-Thomas as costume designer. The release date for the film is currently unknown.
