Lee Child’s thriller book series is getting another adaptation, with Ed Zwick (Love & Other Drugs) now set to direct. The sequel to 2012’s Jack Reacher will have Tom Cruise reprising his role to bring the books to life again.
Alongside Zwick, Marshall Herskovitz is also returning for the sequel, currently titled Jack Reacher: Never Go Back. Zwick and Herskovitz are writing the screenplay, which will find Reacher returning to his old base only to discover that he is now accused of a 16-year-old homicide. Tom Cruise is confirmed for the role of Jack Reacher but no other cast announcements have been made.
Christopher McQuarrie, who wrote and directed the first movie, is also returning, though only in the role of executive producer. The movie will be based on Lee Child’s book Never Go Back, the eighteenth book in the Jack Reacher series. Child is still writing the series, with the twentieth book, Make Me, soon to be released.
Tom Cruise is currently working on a few other projects as well, including Top Gun 2, in which he’ll be reprising his role of Maverick, and Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation, the fifth installment of the Mission: Impossible series, where he’ll again take on the role of Ethan Hunt. He is also working on Mena, a crime thriller about a pilot/drug runner in the 1980s.
Jack Reacher: Never Go Back does not yet have a set release date as negotiations are still in process to bring the crew and story together.
