Woody, Buzz, and the rest of the gang are back together for a new adventure next weekend when Toy Story 5 releases in theaters. With the premiere having just taken place for the film, early reviews are now circulating online, strongly favoring the latest from Pixar’s iconic franchise.
After parting ways with the toys, Woody reunites with Buzz, Jesse, and the rest of the gang as Bonnie’s new technology infatuation grows thanks to the Lilypad Tablet. Not wanting to become obsolete, the toys have to go on a journey to win back Bonnie’s heart, and stop the Lilypad from destroying playtime as they know it.
Reactions to the film coming out of its premiere are already making the rounds, and Pixar seems to have won everyone over once again. While the reactions are numerous, most reviews praise the film for being extremely heartfelt and emotional, while also tapping strongly into the themes of friendship that each film since the original have used. The response has been so strong that Hollywood Reporter’s own analyst for awards season contenders is confident that, come Oscar season, Toy Story 5 will be in the running.
One response on X, directly from Drew Taylor, called the film an “absolute homerun,” while going on to say it helps cement the series as the best animated franchise ever. The positive reviews are on track with the previous 4 films, which have all managed to be huge hits with both critics and audiences alike.
