Early Box Office Estimates For ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ Put It On Course For A Colossal Opening

As fan excitement begins to build, so do the early box office estimates. Deadpool & Wolverine is currently on course to bring home between $160 to $165 million in its opening weekend alone.

If Deadpool & Wolverine can stay its course, then it’ll go down in film history as the strongest opening for an R-rated film.

Compared to the predecessors, the first Deadpool made $132 million in its opening weekend, while Deadpool 2 brought home a smaller, yet still impressive, total of $125 million.

Also for comparison, 2017’s Logan, which shared the R-rating with the Deadpool films, opened to $88 million. Logan marks the most recent time that Hugh Jackman portrayed comic book icon Wolverine.

Hollywood Reporter points out that the projected total for Deadpool & Wolverines opening weekend could potentially pull Marvel out of a box office rut. While Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3 opened to $118 million domestically, and went on to take home $845 million worldwide, the next film in the universe struggled upon its debut.

Following Guardians Vol. 3 came The Marvels, which opened to not even half of Guardians 3’s opening, sitting at just $46 million. It only went on to make $206 million worldwide, making it one of the lowest grossing of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Deadpool & Wolverine hits theaters on July 26th.
