Dwayne Johnson is set to voice Krypto the Superdog in Warner Bros’ upcoming animated film DC League of Super-Pets. Johnson’s production company Seven Bucks has also signed on to produce, so he will be involved in the project in more ways than one. No other actors have been announced to be attached to the feature yet.
Jared Stern (Green Eggs and Ham) is set to write and direct this upcoming animated superhero action adventure, while Sam Levine (Freaks and Geeks) will be co-directing. DC League of Super-Pets will be the first-ever feature to star Superman’s best friend.
Patricia Hicks, Jared Stern and, under their Seven Bucks Productions banner, Johnson, Dany Garcia and Hiram Garcia are producing the film, while John Requa, Glenn Ficarra and Nicholas Stoller are executive producing. The film is based on characters from Superman created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster.
DC League of Super-Pets is set to be released in theaters on May 20th, 2022, right before Memorial Day weekend next year. This will certainly be a busy month for theaters, as Memorial Day weekend releases include Paramount’s Mission: Impossible 7, Lionsgate’s John Wick: Chapter 4, and an untitled Disney live-action title.
This is the second DC title that Johnson is involved with on his current calendar. He is also starring in Black Adam as the title character, which follows up to 2019’s Shazam and is being produced by New Line Cinema. As of now, both Black Adam and DC League of Super-Pets are scheduled for 2022.
