DreamWorks has finally broken their silence on the highly anticipated Shrek 5. A new short look has been given for the movie on their YouTube.
Mike Myers is returning to the film, reprising his role as the titular ogre Shrek for his fifth feature film. Cameron Diaz and Eddie Murphy are back for the film as well, with Diaz playing his wife Fiona, and Murphy playing his wisecracking donkey sidekick, Donkey.
One new addition to the cast, however, is that of Zendaya, who is shown to be playing one of Shrek and Fiona’s children in the teaser.
Zendaya already sported a very productive 2024, between starring in Dune: Part Two and Challengers, both of which became massive critical hits and saw respectable financial success on release.
While still a ways off from its release, DreamWorks recently returned to the characters brought to the big screen thanks to Shrek when they made Puss In Boots: The Last Wish, back in 2022. Following the iconic Puss In Boots as he tries to stay one step ahead of death, the film garnered warm reception and was even nominated for Best Animated Feature at the 95th Academy Awards.
Since 2001, Shrek has become a staple of animation, and one of the DreamWorks’ most recognizable icons. Spawning multiple sequels and spinoffs, Shrek hasn’t appeared in a film of his own in nearly 15 years, since the release of Shrek Forever After.
Shrek 5 hits theaters Christmas 2026. Check out the video below.
