DreamWorks Animation’s adaptation of Aaron Blabey Scholastic book series The Bad Guys just got a huge cast and director announcement. Variety confirmed that Oscar winner Sam Rockwell (The One and Only Ivan), Awkwafina (Raya and the Last Dragon), and Anthony Ramos (In The Heights) had joined the upcoming animated action-comedy The Bad Guys.
It was also confirmed by Variety that animator Pierre Perfiel, who worked on animated films like Kung Fu Panda and Shrek Forever After, will make his directorial feature debut with The Bad Guys.
Etan Cohen (Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa) will write the script. The plot follows a crackerjack criminal band of animal outlaws as they try their most difficult scam yet, becoming model citizens.
Also set to join The Bad Guys include Marc Maron (GLOW), Craig Robinson (The Office), Lilly Singh (Bad Moms), Alex Borstein (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel), Zazie Beetz (Deadpool), and Richard Ayoade (Paddington 2).
Rockwell is expected to star in the untitled Merle Haggard biopic as Merle Haggard.
Fans of Awkwafina can catch her in the upcoming Marvel film Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings that is expected to be released in Sept.
Ramos is currently filming Transformers: Rise of the Beasts alongside Ron Perlman.
The Bad Guys are expected to be released in April 2022.
