‘Don’t Look Up’ Breaks Netflix Record For Weekly Viewing

Per Deadline, the newly released satire on climate change and political divisiveness Don’t Look Up has officially broken the record for most weekly viewing on the streaming service Netflix. If that wasn’t enough, it is as of now the third most watch Netflix movie ever.

The star-studded film that came out in early December has in a short time become one of the most-watched films on the streaming service, the third most-watched movie to be precise. Directed by Adam McKay, the film follows two astronomers from Michigan State University, Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence, in their outlandish journey from their discovery of a world-destroying meteorite to revealing the truth to the mainstream media and to being ridiculed on social media. When they seek help from the White House, everything, even the actual end of the world, gets politicized and monetized.

The movie is full of established Hollywood celebrities such as Cate Blanchett and Tyler Perry playing two TV hosts and Maryl Streep acting as Madame President with Jonah Hill as her son. Pop artist Ariana Grande, rapper Kid Cudi, and former Captain America actor Chris Evans act as caricatures of celebrities.

The movie’s cosmic cast greatly helped it to reach this milestone. It also says a lot about the current political climate as it mocks and ridicules everything from politics, social media, mainstream media, the status quo, celebrities, and more.
