Deadline has reported that Judas and the Black Messiah star Dominique Fishback has joined Anthony Ramos as the lead in the next Transformers project. When the news of Ramos broke earlier this month, insiders said that the studio was looking for an opposite, and now less than a month later they have found their lead in Fishback. The 30-year old actor is quickly making a name for herself with her previous roles in Project Power and her role as Deborah Johnson in Judas and the Black Messiah.
Fishback brought a lot to those roles and it is exciting to see her stepping into a massive franchise like Transformers. Overall, the franchise seems to be heading for more quality films.
Hasbro and Paramount have significantly changed their approach to the Transformers franchise. After huge financial success, but little critical success, with the five Michael Bay-directed films, the studio has been going in a new direction.
Travis Knight’s Bumblebee received solid reviews, and they are going with a similarly interesting director in former Creed II helmer Steven Caple Jr, while the script is written by Joby Harold, based on early scripts by Matt Holloway, Art Marcum, and Ken Nolan.
It is certainly interesting to see the continuing evolution of this franchise, and it looks like they are giving projects to people that really care about the material. The Transformers franchise is also working on many other projects, including an animated film as well as a sequel to 2018’s Bumblebee.
The untitled Transformers film is set to hit theaters on June 24, 2022.
