Dominic West (Showtime’s The Affair) has joined the Jodie Foster-directed drama Money Monster according to Deadline. The actor joins George Clooney (Tomorrowland), Julia Roberts (Ocean’s Eleven), and Jack O’Connell (Unbroken).
West will play the CEO of the company that Lee Gates (Clooney), a Jim Cramer-esque TV host, predicts will fail. O’Connell plays Kyle Budwell, a middle class citizen who loses his savings on Gates’ prediction. In a mad rage, Budwell holds Gates hostage on his show, threatening to kill the host if the stock doesn’t return to its purchase price. Through the media frenzy, secrets surface about the company’s back room dealings. Roberts plays the producer of Clooney’s show.
West is coming off a Golden Globe nomination for his role on Showtime’s The Affair. He’s best known for playing Detective Jimmy McNulty on the beloved HBO show The Wire. Along with his work on The Affair, and now Money Monster, West is set to play Ernest Hemingway in the Max Perkins biopic Genius. He will also lend his voice to the Disney sequel, Finding Dory.
Money Monster is currently in pre-production and is set to hit theaters later this year.
