Although the Eagles managed to win big against the Chiefs over the weekend, the box office did not find quite as big a victory. With two recognizable releases to commemorate Valentines Day just around the corner, most box office titles got sacked in this quiet weekend.
Moviegoers continue to throw Dog Man a bone as it continues to stay on top of the box office, earning $13.7 million, pushing it over $50 million domestically. While enough to get it the gold, that still marks around a 60% drop for the canine officer, from its almost $40 million opening.
Second place this weekend belongs to the most lucrative opening title, Heart Eyes. Merging slasher and rom-com, Heart Eyes sees a killer stalking two people pulling a late shift at a job who he mistakes for a couple. Across the weekend, it was able to take home $8.5 million, a far cry from other successful openers on Super Bowl weekend.
Deadline notes that one of the best grossing openers over the Super Bowl weekend was Hannah Montana and Miley Cyrus: Best Of Both Worlds, with just over $31 million in its release over 15 years ago.
Bronze this weekend goes to the Ke Huy Quan-led action flick Love Hurts. With $5.8 million this weekend, Deadline states as well that reviews aren’t leaning in favor of the movie. Rotten Tomatoes has it at an 18% critic score and a 63% audience score, while IMDb’s score sits at 5.5 out of 10.
The rest of the top five is filled out by Mufasa: The Lion King in fourth with $3.9 million, and Companion in fifth with $3.02 million.
