‘Doctor Who’ Alum Matt Smith Joins Cast of ‘Star Wars: Episode IX’

Fans will be pleased to know that British actor Matt Smith will soon be back on camera – this time on the big screen.

The Doctor Who and The Crown star has reportedly joined the cast of the next Star Wars movie, Variety reports. Although it is unclear which role Smith will play in the film, many anticipate a high performance from the recently Emmy-nominated actor. Reports describe Smith’s performance in the film as a ‘key role’, so there is no doubt that we can expect to see much of him on screen.

Smith will join principle Star Wars cast Mark Hamill, John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Oscar Isaac, and Kelly Marie Tran, as well as fellow newcomers Keri Russell and Dominic Monaghan, who supposedly play ‘action-heavy’ roles. Late actress Carrie Fisher is also said to be incorporated in the film using never-before-seen footage from her previous performance in Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

After many disputes over the creative process of Star Wars: Episode IX, J.J. Abrams will be replacing Colin Trevorrow in directing this new film, which is set to debut in December 2019.
