Disney and Pixar’s newest release, Elio, is a story about a young boy who is mistakenly identified as Earth’s leader by aliens. Since Elio is a fan of space, he is ready for this otherworldly adventure. Following a pattern of other Disney and Pixar movies, Elio has landed a high 86% on Rotten Tomatoes.
Elio is in the company of movies like Finding Nemo, Toy Story, The Incredibles and Inside Out. A review from Julian Roman of Movieweb reads, “Elio will have audiences of all ages looking towards the stars in a wonderful and richly imaginative sci-fi adventure.” Roman gave the movie a 4 out of 5. Other reviews praised the movie for its heartwarming moments and themes of family and connection.
Most reviewers enjoyed the movie and found it fit in well with Pixar’s other hits. However, some feel the movie is repetitive of the company’s previous films. That is where some saw the movie’s downfall: it is being compared to major hits from Pixar’s past, and some feel it is not as good as those classic movies.
Elio will hit theaters June 20. This is also the same day the horror flick 28 Years Later debuts, giving the children’s movie some competition. But some believe that Elio could gain popularity once it’s streaming.
