According to Screenrant, the live-action adaptation of Disney’s Tangled will be released in 2028. The news comes shortly after Moana’s box office numbers were lower and held mixed reviews online, giving Disney an opportunity to craft a compelling and cinematic adaptation for the 2010 film. The film is currently undergoing various stages of production from constructing the iconic tower to decorating the kingdom of Corona blue and yellow to the return of Maximus the horse.
Production is currently occurring in Ciudad de la Luz studios in Alicante. The current cast includes Teagan Croft (True Spirit, Titans) as Rapunzel, Milo Manheim (Zombies, Prom Pact) as love interest/thief Eugene Fitzerbert, Kathryn Hahn (Agatha All Along, Bad Moms) as Mother Gothel and Diego Luna (Andor, Narcos: México) as a new character that has yet to be revealed to the public. Michael Gracey (The Greatest Showman, Rocketman) directs. The screenplay is written by Michael Montemayor (Court Date, Stepsisters) and Jennifer Kaytin Robinson (Do Revenge, Someone Great).
Tangled centers around long-lost princess Rapunzel who runs away on her eighteenth birthday to see the lanterns in person only to find her new dream.
Various live action films from Disney have brought success to the franchise from Cinderella to Lilo and Stitch. However, some have not brought in as much box office gross as they should and spike controversy such as the recent adaptation of Snow White and Moana.
There has yet to be an official release date for Tangled but the number does linger.
