Disney’s ‘Princess Diaries 3’ Finds Director In Adele Lim

Adele Lim is set to work as the director of the third film in the Princess Diaries franchise. Lim has previously worked with Disney through the animated movie, Raya and the Last Dragon

Princess Diaries 3 is to be produced by Debra Martin Chase. Flora Greeson will be writing the screenplay while Naia Cucukov and Melissa Stack will executive produce. 

The Princess Diaries made its debut in 2001, telling the story of Mia Thermopolis who goes from regular teenager one day to royalty the next. It is followed by its 2004 sequel, The Princess Diaries: Royal Engagement. The movies star household names Anne Hathaway and Julie Andrews, and are directed by the late Gary Marshall.

In a statement Lim shared about directing the movie she said, “As a diehard fan of the original Princess Diaries, I’m beyond excited to be a part of bringing the third iteration of this beloved franchise to life. We look forward to celebrating its core tenants of female power, joy and mentorship with audiences worldwide.”

Lim has numerous accolades and accomplishments to her name. She worked on Golden Globe nominee and Critics Choice Award Winner Crazy Rich Asians. She was a co-showrunner for CW series Star-Crossed and a writer-producer on long running show One Tree Hill. Last year Lim and Naia Cucukov formed production company 100 Tigers. 100 Tigers currently has several projects in the works in studios such as Amazon and ABC. 

She recently made her directorial debut with Asian American comedy Joy Ride starring Ashley Park and Stephanie Hsu in 2023.
