Disney’s Live-Action ‘Peter Pan and Wendy’ Moves to Disney+

During Disney’s annual investor day presentation, the studio announced that the live-action film Peter Pan and Wendy is officially in pre-production and will go straight to the streaming platform Disney+. This has been the case for many Disney films as the ongoing pandemic continues to postpone film release dates. Peter Pan and Wendy was actually originally going to release on Disney+, but then got a theatrical release announcement, until getting moved back to the platform once again.

According to Variety, the film will be directed by David Lowery (A Ghost Story) and will star Tom Holland as Peter Pan, Yara Shahidi as Tinkerbell, Jude Law as Captain Hook, as well as Alexander Molony and Ever Anderson in the roles of Peter and Wendy. The film will be a live-action version of the beloved 1953 animated film. David Lowery and Toby Halbrooks are writing the script, and Jim Whitaker and Joe Roth will produce. The film was originally going to begin filming on April 17, 2020 and was said to be wrapped by June 30, 2021. Disney CEO Bob Chapek stated that filming on all movies that had to stop filming in March had resumed filming, which means Peter Pan and Wendy is included. A 22-second teaser trailer was released for the film this week, which hopefully means a release date will be announced soon.

Melissa Cusano: I love to escape reality with reading, writing, movies, and music! If I'm not working I love to go to concerts (pre-covid), play video games, and hang out with my dog Ozzi.
