Disney Animation has released the first trailer for Big Hero 6, their animated offering for this year. The film is based on an obscure Marvel Comics property about a team of Japanese state-sponsored superheroes. Disney’s adaptation will feature a young boy, Hiro Hamada, in the city of San Fransokyo.Don Hall and Chris Williams (Bolt) will direct, Hall and Jordan Roberts wrote the screenplay, Roy Conli and Kristina Reed will produce. The cast so far includes Josh Hutcherson (The Hunger Games) and Samuel L. Jackson.
The teaser shows Hiro designing his dream robot, Baymax, and then attempting to build it by repurposing a bulky household robot. They will be the first two members of a team that will include characters like Wasabi-No-Ginger, Honey Lemon, Gogo Tomago, and Fred*. In an interview with Yahoo Movies, Hall and Williams stated that their film would emphasize the friendship between Hiro and Baymax as they bring the other heroes together to save their city.
Despite the massive popularity for Disney’s previous film, Frozen, there are still no official plans for sequels or spin-offs. Instead it seems that Disney is content to move on to their next project, even after the massive success of Illumination Entertainment’s Despicable Me 2 and while anticipation builds for Dreamworks’ How to Train Your Dragon 2.
Big Hero 6 will arrive in theaters on November 7.
