Disneynature, the film company that brought nature documentaries Chimpanzee and Oceans to audiences, has released a new clip that presents their newest project Penguins. This documentary is centered on an Adélie penguin named Steve who is searching for a mate and building a nest while surviving the harsh Arctic environment.
To make the movie, experts traveled to four locations over the span of three years, which amounted to 900 shooting days. Filmmakers experienced temperatures of -40 degrees and wind speeds that reached 150 mph.
Roy Conli, one of the producers of the documentary, spoke about the value of the film and what it will mean to audiences. “Antarctica is one of the few areas in the world that most people will never have an opportunity to see firsthand. Cultivating an understanding and appreciation of the area, the surrounding oceans, and the animals who live there is essential to the future of our planet.”
The conservation component of this project expands beyond the making of the film itself. Disneynature has partnered with the Wildlife Conservation Network, which invests in penguin conservationists, such as the Global Penguin Society.
Penguins will be released in theaters April 17 and will be the first Disneynature film shown in IMAX.
