Disney’s Frozen released all the way back in 2013, and while the Frozen fever has died down since then, it hasn’t stopped Disney from producing a sequel. Frozen 2, is set for a November release of this year, and today fans are treated to a first look at new footage.
According to Variety, the sequel is directed by Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck, the returning directors from the first film. Jennifer Lee is also credited as being one of the co-writers of the film’s script. Other returning crew members include Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez, who are the songwriters. Most of the cast from the original film will be reprising their roles including Idina Menzel as Queen Elsa, Kristen Bell as Princess Anna, Jonathan Groff as Kristoff, and Josh Gad as Olaf. There is also some speculation that actors Evan Rachel Wood and Sterling K. Brown will be joining the voice cast.
The trailer does not give away a whole lot about the film, but it does give the impression that the story is being set during fall. Some possible action sequences are teased including a scene of Elsa running across an ocean, Kristoff riding Sven, and Anna jumping across a gorge. Anna and Elsa are shown wearing brand new outfits as well. Disney promises that this movie will be about much more epic adventure, but the story will still be focused on the royal sisters.
Disney animated sequels have a history of being ridiculed. There are some with a nostalgic love for movies like the Lion King 2 and the Aladdin sequels, but most of the straight to VHS/DVD Disney sequels were criticized for being cheap cash grabs. However, Disney has been putting a lot of effort into their more recent animated sequels, and knowing how much Disney has changed in the past few decades it is safe to say that Frozen 2 will be a major success.
