Disney has set digital and DVD release dates for Zootopia 2, the highest-grossing animated motion picture of all time.
The animated feature, sequel to 2016’s Zootopia, is set to come home on January 27th and will be available to stream on digital platforms such as Amazon Prime Video, Fandango at Home, and Apple TV. The sequel will also get Blu-ray, 4K Ultra HD, and DVD releases, available on March 3rd.
In addition, Disney is set to release a limited-edition 4K SteelBook bursts featuring Zootopia’s most beloved characters, including a “sssspecial focus” on the fan-favorite character, Gary De’Snake. Bonus features of the DVD include fun behind-the-scenes moments inside the recording booth, a clip centered on the making of Shakira’s music for the feature, and an inside look at Walt Disney Animation Studios. This release will include a multitude of deleted scenes that offer more world-building and laughs for the devoted fans.
Both animated features have been clear financial and critical successes, as each has grossed over 1 billion worldwide and been nominated for an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature Film, which Zootopia won in 2017. Zootopia 2 has already been historic in its own right, accumulating over $1.703 billion at the global box office, making it the highest-grossing animated Motion Picture Association (MPA) release of all time, beating out features such as 2015’s Jurassic World at $1.672 billion and 2019’s The Lion King at $ 1.663 billion. Zootopia 2 is the fifth Walt Disney Animation Studios feature to pass the 1 billion global mark, joining the likes of its predecessor, Frozen, Frozen 2, and Moana 2.
Zootopia 2 follows rookie cops Judy Hopps (Ginnifer Goodwin) and Nick Wilde (Jason Bateman), who find themselves on the twisting trail of a great mystery when Gary De’Snake (Ke Huy Quan) arrives in Zootopia and turns the animal metropolis upside down. To crack the case, Judy and Nick must go undercover to unexpected new parts of town, where their growing partnership is tested like never before.
