Disney has released some dates regarding upcoming films. Toy Story 5, the 6th installment of the Toy Story series after 2022’s Lightyear, will release on June 19th, 2026. Tom Hanks will be back to voice Woody and Tim Allen will be voicing Buzz Lightyear. This announcement came in tandem with a few other Disney film release date projections.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, “Toy Story 5‘s date with theaters was among slew of changes and additions made to the Disney release calendar. The studio also pushing Dwayne Johnson’s live-action remake of Moana by a year to July 10, 2026 (it was previously slated for from June 27, 2025). The move gives the remake breathing room from the animated Moana 2, which opens this November…The studio also confirmed that the Star Wars feature The Mandalorian & Grogu will bow May 22, 2026, as had been speculated. The Mandalorian creator Jon Favreau is directing the film, which spins out of his Disney+ show and stars Pedro Pascal. It is a particularly important feature, as Lucasfilm seeks to return Star Wars to the big screen for the first time since 2019’s The Rise of Skywalker.”
Star Wars’ return to theaters will surely be a hit with fans. After a slew of streaming projects such as The Mandalorian, Ahsoka, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Bad Batch among others, it will be refreshing to see these beloved characters on the big screen again.
As for the Moana sequel, although stars Auliʻi Cravalho and Dwayne Johnson will be returning to reprise their roles as Moana and Maui, respectively, Lin Manuel Miranda will not be coming back for the soundtrack. This is despite his involvement with other current Disney projects like Percy Jackson and the Olympians. Instead the project will have songs written by Abigail Barlow and Emily Bear, a duo that blew up online after their Bridgerton musical. They will certainly have big shoes to fill.
