On Saturday, during the Destination D23 Event, which is held every year in Orlando, Florida, Jared Bush, director of animated Disney films like Zootopia, Encanto, and the upcoming Zootopia 2, went onstage to announce the newest film from Walt Disney Animation Studios. The film, titled Hexed, is Disney’s newest original animated film. It’s the first original animated film from Disney since 2023’s Wish. Its logline is as follows:
“Disney’s Hexed is an all-new original film that follows an awkward teenage boy and his Type — A mom, who discover that what makes him unusual might just be magical powers that will turn their lives and a secret world of magic upside down.”
The film will be directed by Josie Trinidad and Jason Hand. Both directors have previous experience at Disney, with Trinidad serving various animation and story roles on several Disney movies from Wreck-It Ralph onwards, and Hand serving on the Art Department on several Disney movies before directing Moana 2. The film will be produced by Roy Conli and Juan Pablo Reyes Lancaster-Jones. Both have previous producing experience with Disney, with Conli producing several Disney movies such as The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Treasure Planet, and Tangled; and Landcaster-Jones producing 2022’s Strange World.
The film is currently slated to be released in theaters in November 2026.
