Buzz Lightyear is getting his own movie; however, Buzz is no longer a toy this time. Lightyear is a film that makes Toy Story fans wonder why Andy wants a Buzz Lightyear action figure. Director Angus MacLane, who made the pitch to direct Lightyear, asked what it would be like to be Andy when he saw Buzz Lightyear for the first time on the big screen.
MacLane explained he had a keen interest in Buzz’s backstory in Toy Story. In Angus’s interview, he explained. “In Toy Story, there seemed to be this incredible backstory to him being a Space Ranger that’s only touched upon, and I always wanted to explore that world further.” MacLane wants fans to think about what it was like for Andy when he saw Buzz Lightyear in theaters. Now Pixar and MacLane are giving Toy Story fans the chance to see the movie that made Andy want a Buzz Lightyear toy.
In October, Chris Evans, who plays the new Buzz Lightyear, said that voicing Buzz’s “dream come true.” Evans went on to say, “Anyone who knows me knows that my love for animated films runs deep. I can’t believe that I get to be a part of the Pixar family and work with these truly brilliant artists who tell stories unlike anyone else,” Evans added: “Watching them work is nothing short of magic. I pinch myself every day.”
Fans will have to wait until June 17th to hear Evans say Buzz’s favorite quote “to infinity and beyond.”
