Discovery+ To Release ‘January 6th’ From ‘9/11’ Filmmakers

Discovery + plans to release a documentary following the Capitol attack on January 6th, from 9/11 filmmakers Gédéon and Jules Naudet. The film will stream on January 5th to follow the second anniversary of the event.

The story will be told from the perspective of the first responders, survivors, and heroes. The film will follow government officials House Speaker Nancy Pelosi; D.C. Police Chief Robert Contee III; Congresswoman Liz Cheney (R-WY) and more than 50 senators, representatives, and staffers from both sides of the aisle; and police officers revealing their experience from that day. According to Discovery +, the story will take an Apolitical approach, and is currently the only documentary with the Capitol and Metropolitan police support.

Ben Silverman and Howard T. Owens are set to be executive producers with the help of Igal Svet and Howard Swartz. The film will have its festival debut at the Hamptons International Film Festival on October 8th.

When speaking on the film, the Naudet brothers commented, that they were set on relaying the events that occurred on January 6th from a human perspective without an “political bias”. They believe that even when “the worst of humanity is on display, there will always be heroes who step up as shining examples of courage and selflessness in the face of tragedy.”

January 6th will be available for streaming on January 5th, 2023 on Discovery+.
