Director Zack Snyder and the DC Universe

The highly anticipated Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is due out in theaters next month. This will be Zack Snyder’s third feature film adapted from the DC Universe with two more on the way (The Justice League: Part 1 & 2). It’s safe to say that he’s found a popular niche in the industry. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is intended to be the film to kick off the expanded DC Universe, which is a formula that has proven successful at Marvel Studios with The Avengers.

Batman v Superman is the follow up to Man of Steel (2013) that will feature a different perspective on the events that took place in the first film. Snyder’s vision of the DC Universe is much darker than the typical comic book adaptations that we’ve seen in the past. Multiple movie trailers have been released showing the two iconic characters face off before they must eventually team up to defeat the super villain Doomsday.

DC Entertainment is betting big on the success of Batman v Superman with several standalone films already in production. Wonder Woman played by Gal Gadot will make her first appearance in Dawn of Justice before getting her big screen debut next year. The Flash and Aquaman are both scheduled for 2018 release, and will have newcomers Ezra Miller  and Jason Momoa starring in the lead roles. In addition, Ben Affleck recently announced plans to direct and star in the next Untitled Batman Reboot.

Zack Snyder is considered a visionary director and master of the craft, relying heavily on CGI (Computer Generated Images) to create rich and colorful worlds entirely from scratch. Snyder’s first comic book adaptation 300 (2006) was huge success and perfect example of his creative mastery. Snyder’s next film Watchmen (2009) was based on a successful DC comic series from the 1980’s and is regarded as another major accomplishment in visual effects, however it received mixed reviews from audiences.

Man of Steel (2013) was another groundbreaking display of Snyder’s directing ability and paved the way for an ever-expanding DC Universe. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is arguably the most anticipated film of the year and fans have been extremely vocal throughout every phase of the production, however Snyder is no stranger to criticism and invites moviegoers to see for themselves next month.
